Well, I can't believe I found this place again....

...and that my old (very old, very, very old) member name was still active....

I see some folks names here I recognize from the old Food Network forums....Marlene, Chef Caine, XBones (I'm sure there are more, those are just the ones that popped out at me)...

How cool that this is primarily a food and cooking forum, I have certainly missed the old FN forums.

What fun this is going to be!!

Hi you guys!!

Caine, you're still as funny as I remember....

Marlene, so good to "see" you!! Lots of things have gone on. I developed Type II diabetes and it became brittle real fast...I'm on a huge amount of two different insulins plus oral meds. I'm slowly reconciling myself to this, but it hasn't been easy. Most of the time I'm just pretty annoyed about the whole deal, lol.

Youngest daughter was pregnant (25 yrs old)...very early in the pregnancy they discovered she had cancer and said it was growing and dividing at an alarming rate. They couldn't treat it while she was pregnant and the pregnancy hormones were contributing to its rapid development. She chose to terminate after much agonizing debate, had the surgery/treatment and is fine now, but the mental aspects of this have been harder to get over. So far, all her checkups have been negative and we hope it stays that way.

And...well...other than that, it's been business as usual, lmao! I've finally gotten back to some of my singing - it's always been a haven for me, and have recorded a number of songs thru a website. If you (or anyone else) are interested, I'll post some links.

How about you?

Caine, what have you been up to? Still living in SF?

Wow, Deb!!

I sure hope that everything works out for you and your daughter. That sure is a lot to deal with. I am sure your daughter is going though all kinds of guilt and all. Is she seeing anyone professionally to help her through all of this?

I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I have been busy also and relocated from Illinois to Arizona. My daughter also relocated from Illinois to Seattle and got married. She also developed diabetes and is taking shots of insuln to keep everything on track. She is very active and thin and always has eaten well so it was a real shock when we found out what was wrong with her. She handled it in stride but was angry at first.

Wow, you guys moved to AZ eh? Bet that's some environmental shock, weather being so different there. (My middle daughter's in Sedona right now visiting some friends of hers till Sunday...)

Thanks for your kind words.....how old is your daughter? Does she have juvenile diabetes or TypeII? There is such a mental thing connected to being diagnosed with diabetes and what all comes after, the daily monitoring that becomes such a part of the fabric of your life....I found it to be so exhausting having to think every single thing out that went in to my mouth, and there is always alot of anger associated with the diagnosis at first. I totally sympathize with your daughter's anger, I've been there (well I'm still there at times, lmao!!).

DD who had the cancer is indeed seeing a counselor who has helped her alot.....it's still painful, but she's doing better than me at times I think.

OH, how could I forget this...I bought a new townhome in January, in a planned community. I LOVE it here, and have the most awesome kitchen. I made them take out the stove that was here and connect up a gas stove!! I figured if I was going new, I was going to get my gas range at last.

Only I moved to AZ, my daughter moved to Seattle and loves it.

She is 38 and developed it as an adult (Type II). She really handled it well and basically was eating really healthy and didn't have to make much of a change to her eating habits just a few minor changes. It doesn't slow her down any and she manages to keep a positive attitude. I noticed that if she doesn't follow her diet plan exactly that she gets tired and crabby but she rarely goofs up.

Congrads on the new place that is really exciting. I am sure you will love it!!! I would love to totally redo my kitchen even though my house is only 9 years old.
