Welcome to this new discussion
Welcome everyone - I hope you have some interesting stories and cookbooks to share. I heard some very neat autograph related stories, too. (Hint - Marlene) I can't report on those. I know, I own a lot of cookbooks. In fact, I read them like novels. I have a pad of very small postums next to the book and mark what recipes worth trying. I know what you are thinking - do I every get to try those recipes? You bet I do - every chance I get. I have even posted some of the recipes on this very forum. So, let's get busy and talk. The next time I post here - I will report on the newest cookbook. It is one of those - lick your finger - real page turner!

DITTO! I have over 1,000 cookbooks, and I should have stock in post-its...I use them constantly! I try recipes almost daily, and some go down in the annals of "must use for catering job" or "perfect for party". Many simply turn out "a constant favorite".
I was in the process of writing my own cookbook a few years ago (about 2/3 done) when my editor passed away suddenly. I have never looked for another editor, and the book has long since been put on hold. Maybe someday...

Yes, someone that has more cookbooks than me. Care to discuss any of your favorite cookbooks here? I do hope you get motivated to finish the cookbook. If nothing else - just to say you did it! I am glad you are here, thanks.

I have a bunch of cookbooks also, but I seem to use just a few most of the time. My favorite is a cookbook called Northwest Flavors. I know, I live in the Southwest, but they have many great recipes. I also enjoy my Chinese cookbooks because it is hard to make really good Chinese food. I like to break out a bottle of wine and my Chinese cookbooks and perfect my art

Have to tell a little "cookbook" story that has always made me laugh. Actually, I don't just laugh, I go into side-splitting giggling.
In 1979, I was really into Chinese cooking; experimenting with different ingredients, etc. My mother (rest her soul) asked what I wanted for Christmas that year, and I told her a good general Chinese cookbook. Imagine my surprise when I opened my gift that December, only to find a huge cookbook...written in CHINESE! I think my husband and I laughed for an hour; it was so typical of Mom. Later that day when Mom & Dad called to wish us a merry Christmas, she asked if I liked the book. She noticed the hesitation in my voice and asked what was wrong. I said, "I'm sure it's a very good book, but I can't read Chinese." She said, "But I thought that's what you asked for, though I did think it was a rather unusual request!" I could hear my dad in the background laughing...he had tried to convince her I wanted a book about Chinese cooking, but there was no convincing my mom at the time. Inside the book is a note from my mom which says, in part, "After searching several bookstores for a Chinese cookbook, I almost despaired - then found this one. I hope you find it interesting reading, as well as useful."
Mom & Dad are no longer with us, but for 28 years this story has kept the family laughing!

I cannot contend on a cookbook count but I could go for a contest with lots of recipes that can be cook without the help of a cookbook.
I too have cookbooks to check with when I want to cook another recipe. I have Spanish/Italian cookbook which mainly is on pasta. I also have a Chinese cookbook, 3 of them that I always use, one for noodles, another especially for ducks and chickens, and one more for recipes with rice. Then there's the American cookbook which has given to me by a friend from the US when he visited the Philippines. And of course, a lot of Filipino cookbook which I have in different regions of the Philippines.
I usually cook recipes that are casserole and those recipes that needs rice with it, mainly Filipino dish.

Right now the only book I have is "Super Cookery: Low fat & Salads". I have moved a ton in my life, and I lost quite a many books (not just cookbooks either). I plan to add some new ones in this evening and tomorrow morning, I am working to eat healthier and all that fun jazz. Hope you all enjoy!

I never heard about the NW Flavors cookbook. Would you like to give us some more infomation on it? It really sounds interesting. Who wrote it? Which is your favorite recipe in it? Thanks a bunch for your input.

Awww- Islandtime - what a neat story. Did you ever get a Chinese cookbook you could read? I bet you still have that treasure your Mom gave you too!

How very interesting. Are your Chinese cookbooks in English or Chinese? What is the name and author of your American cookbook?
