The letter I sent to the PR for the TX wine & food fest.
Subject: I want to thank you
To: pam@blantonpr.com
I attended the Texas wine & food festival on saturday. I got there a little after noon and by the time I parked and waded my way thru three lines, (will call, entry, age verification) I made my way to the tasting tent at about 12:30 or so. I was handed a glass that would be collected after leaving the tent and began to wind my way thru the venue. Most of the wines tasted (a paltry 1/2 to 1 oz at a time) were not very good, in fact most of them were of the $8.00 a bottle class, not very appealing. Having less than an hour to taste I moved quickly to try to find a good wine. Half way thru I had found 2 that were "ok". It was only at the end as they were about to shut the tasting down that I finally found a really good one. This from the C.G. Di Arie. I took a moment to talk with the gentleman and because he wanted to empty the current bottle he was nice enough to give me about half a glass. Then the venue closed. It was a very big disappointment, but this gentlemen won a new customer. This was the only wine I tasted that I would buy, the rest should be sold as vinegar, or salad dressing.
Having that disappointment I moved on hoping the "food" would save the day, I envisioned tasting a number of great efforts from local, and other chefs. I quickly realized there would be no tasting of the celebrity chefs food and didn't really expect to. I did expect to taste things from the Texas tent where we had a number of restuarants doing presentations. This fell thru also. I went to the circle of wagons and after spending an average of 10 minutes per line was treated to a couple of spoonfuls of beans and a piece of brisket the size of a quarter, or 2 ozs' of chili. Of course if I really wanted to taste something I could go buy a $4.00 sausage wrap. If I wanted to have a beer I could go buy an 8 oz glass for $4.00.
I did manage to get some nice photos of Tyler and Wolfgang. It's a shame that was the highlight.
So I would like to thank you, for stealing my money. I feel I got about an $8.00 value for my $45.00. Someone made a bunch of money on this event, and everyone involved should be ashamed.
I can tell you how to fix this event for the future, but it will cost you $45.00.
ps, I'll bad mouth this event to everyone I know from here on out. You will see a decline in participation in the future.

Sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience Davey. I saw your pics of Tyler. Can you send us some Wolfie pics too? I feel for him right now. I know firsthand all about hip replacement surgery and it definitely isn't any fun. It's hard as h*ll to move around. Was he on a walker, crutches or walking with a cane?

Hubby and I spent over 200 dollars at this stupid Star Trek convention. after all that the only "stars" that actually showed up just signed pictures that you had to buy for 10 bucks and left. No they did'nt talk to me-or even look at me when I said hi. Major scam-o-la! Thank you Dave for the warning about what to expect when you go to these things! I wish I knew what was what before we spent 200 dollars of our money! Some of these conventions just are not worth your money and time!

OMG, jgirl, you actually went to a Star Trek convention and spent money? I'm sorry, but that is totally hysterical, I guess I can't appreciate the "want" to go to something like that cuz I'm not a "treky", but that made me laugh!

Jogirl, don't feel bad. When I was a teenager I would go annually into New York City to attend the Famous Monsters of Filmland Conventions that were held at the Hotel Commodore. I even got to meet the publisher of the Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine, Mr. Forrest J. Ackerman himself, and got his autograph. I love horror movies!!!
I also used to attend Dark Shadows conventions too. Considering that they held some of them right here in Norwalk, because as any good Dark Shadows fan will tell you, they filmed the ending of the first Dark Shadows movie, "House of Dark Shadows" here in Norwalk at Lockwood-Mathews Mansion. If you have ever seen the movie, the entire end of it was filmed right here and I was right in the front row while they were doing it. I have some magnificent photos of Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins), Jeff Davis (Roger), John Karlen (Willie Loomis, my heartthrob), Nancy Barrett (Carolyn Collins), and Lara Parker (Angelique the witch).
BTW, Lockwood-Mathews Mansion was also used in the filming of the recent remake of "The Stepford Wives", but I didn't attend that filming.
