Splenda
Has anyone else had problems with Splenda? I read a news report about Spenda causing all kinds of Intestinal problems. I also read that it stays in your system for a long time and even small amounts over time can cause serious problems.
I tried using for about 2 months and was sick the entire time. Now even a small amount causes a reaction.

I am allergic too! Since, you are having a reaction - do tell your doctor and don't use anything with Aspartame in it either! I just found out - Radiology uses Aspartame sweetener in the liquids you are required to drink for upper GI, MRI, and Cat scans. The only reason I found this out - I had a terrible reaction when I went in for a MRI. Then I started asking and found this out. Radiology can give the liquid with other ingredients and delete the Aspartame. Hope that helps! Try fructose if you need too! You can get this on the sugar aisle.

I have been using Splenda for years. My only problem is I can get a headache if I eat too much in one day.
I get a terrible reaction to Aspartame, so I am happy to know about the radiologist thing!

I used Splenda for years because my Insignificant Other, long since departed, was type II, and the only problem I ever had with it was, if you added it to the eggs when you were beating them, it would have a tendency to make he eggs coagulate. After the first time, though, I started adding it to the dry ingredients instead of the wet, and it worked fine. No allergies, no headaches, no digestive issues, no bad reactions whatsoever.

I don't trust Splenda at all, but I always did like Stevia. There was a time not too long ago when people were viewing Splenda as some sort of miracle substitute for saccharine and the like, but some studies have found Splenda to be just as bad as the products it was hoped to replace. The stuff still sells though, but so does Nutrasweet.

I've never had a physical reaction to it but I do not like the idea of it or the taste. Problem being its in EVERYTHING these days so you have to practically make everything from scratch and not drink anything bottled to avoid it. I do use stevia and have for over a decade, but its annoying to have to read labels to avoid something.

I have used it in the past when my hubby and I were attempting a low carb diet. It didn't seem to bother us, but we probably didn't stick to the diet long enough to find out. As for the taste, It's fine to me but if it can cause these problems I most likely won't be using it again.

I've been using it in drinks and my oatmeal ever since it came out, with no obvious problems. I do get headaches from time to time, but I think those are caffeine-related and not related to the Splenda. However, I haven't tried baking or cooking with it.
My nutritionist suggested I try using stevia, but I don't like its aftertaste. Prevention magazine suggests using Agar as a sweetner. I've seen that in the grocery stores - usually in the same aisles as the pancake syrup and honey.

I have had the headaches issue before and cut back when I really had no use for it. I wasn't aware there were other issues with it though, nothing mentioned to me at all.
