Shuns for Christmas...<gasp>

My No. 1 kid, the 16 year old who wants to be a chef, has just requested a set of Shuns for Christmas.

OMG

I know they're good, but they are really, really expensive.

I don't know, what d'ya think? Is that too much for a teenager?

Why can't he be like everyone else his age and ask for a friggin' XBox???????????

I'm not in any position to say whether or not you can afford them or if you should shell out that much, but my opinion (since you asked!) is that if he is sincere about wanting to become a chef, then you should strongly take this into consideration when deciding. Anybody that I know who does well at what they do, they usually did it as a hobby before they were trained for it.

Also, you could buy a small part of a set and promise more for next christmas.

Yeah, and perhaps with the understanding that if he "gets tired" of his new hobby, the knives go back to family property. Kind of like what happens when the kids get tired of feeding the new puppy they promised to take care of.
