Orchard Crest Farms issues a voluntary recall for some of their snack products due to expanded recall by Peanut Corporation of America concerning contamination with possible health risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Salem, Oregon -- February 10, 2009 --- Orchard Crest Farms of Salem, Oregon is issuing a voluntary recall for Orchard Crest Farms Mountain Trail Mix, 16 oz., Gramma Anna’s Sensible Snack Old Oregon Trail Mix, Mountain Style, 8 oz. and 3 oz., Gramma Anna’s Sensible Snack Nut Mix, dry roasted, 3 oz., Gramma Anna’s Dry Roasted Deluxe Nut Mix, 9 oz., and Gramma Anna’s Travelers Snack Pack, 4.5 oz., because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These products were packaged using dry roasted, salted peanuts recalled by Peanut Corporation of America because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The products listed below were distributed within Oregon by retail outlets and a gift basket company, plus a gift basket company in Seattle, WA, and at the farm store in Salem, OR. The 8 oz., 9 oz. and 16 oz. sizes were sold at the farm store and retail gift shows only, and not in other distribution. None of these products has our UPC code.
Products being recalled are:

• Orchard Crest Farms, gold label, Mountain Trail Mix, 16 oz. cello bag
• Gramma Anna’s Sensible Snack Old Oregon Trail Mix Mountain Style, 3 oz. and 8 oz. cello bags
• Gramma Anna’s Sensible Snack Nut Mix Dry Roasted, 3 oz. cello bag
• Gramma Anna’s Travelers Snack Pack, 4.5 oz. total net weight, in clear clamshell
• Gramma Anna’s Dry Roasted Deluxe Nut Mix, 9 oz. clear styrene jar with red lid

No other Orchard Crest Farms or Gramma Anna’s Sensible Snacks are included in this recall. No illnesses have been reported in connection with any of our products. None of our products contain peanut butter or peanut paste. Any new product distributed will contain a lot code. We are cooperating fully with the FDA and are destroying and disposing of all of these products now on hand.
We are urging customers who have purchased these products to contact us at 1-800-362-4381 for instructions on disposing of any of these products on hand.
