Marin Food Specialties, Inc. Recalls Various Snacks and Trail Mixes Because of Possible Salmonella Contamination

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Byron, California -- February 3, 2009--- Marin Food Specialties, Inc of Byron, California is voluntarily recalling various snacks and trail mixes because they contain peanuts from Peanut Corporation of America, which may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
Products impacted by the recall include:

• Marin Brand Cajun Snack Mix (12# UPC 0-74672-66624-6), production lots (3188, 3178, 3168, 303. All lots (0017 through 3657) and all lots (0018 through 220.
• Marin Brand Hong Kong Mix (10# UPC 0-74672-21502-4), production lots (3518, 303. All lots (0017 through 3657) and all lots (0018 through 220.
• Fred Meyer Cajun Mix (10# UPC 0-74672-66650-5), with production lots (3368, 3098, 2908, 295. All lots (0017 through 3657) and all lots (0018 through 1978.
• Fred Meyer Happiness Oriental Mix (10# UPC 0-74672-66677-2), production lots (3098, 3368, 2898, 295. All lots (0017 through 3657) and all lots (0018 through 1978.
• Dancing Star Mixed Berry Blast Chunks of Energy (10# UPC 7-69270-10052-4), with production lots (3268, 3238, 3198, 2558, 2488, 2468. All lots (0018 through 2208, and all lots (0017 through 3657).
• Dancing Star Organic Wild Cranberry Chunks of Energy (10# UPC 7-69270-20011-3), with production lots (3518, 3188, 2918. All lots (0017 through 3657), and all lots (0018 through 2208.
• Our Kitchen Classic Trail Mix (12/11 oz UPC 8-26553-30522-1), Enjoy by dates: 6/19/09 and 5/14/09 and any Enjoy by dates prior to 12/20/08.
• Our Kitchen Just for You Trail Mix (12/11 oz UPC 8-26553-30515-3), Enjoy by dates: 5/7/09 and any prior to 12/20/08.
• Our Kitchen Cajun Mix (12/10 oz UPC 8-26553-30516-0), Enjoy by dates: 5/28/09, 5/14/09, 4/24/09, and any prior to 12/20/08.
• Snack Naturally Honey Roasted Peanuts, (12/14 oz UPC 9-99482-00021-2), Sell by dates (4/23/09, 2/28/08, 2/21/09, 2/1/09, 1/24/09, 1/10/09, 1/3/09, 12/17/09, 12/12/09), and any prior to 12/17/09.
• Snack Naturally Mojave Mix, (12/12 oz UPC 9-99482-00061-8, Sell by dates (5/12/09, 4/14/09) and any from 1-1-07 through 12/31/08.
• Snack Naturally On the Trail Mix, (12/14 oz UPC 9-99482-00013-7), Sell by dates (4/12/09, 4/5/09, 3/7/09) and any from 1-1-07 through 12/22/08.
• Snack Naturally Spicy Cajun Mix (12/10 oz UPC 9-99482-00014-4), Sell by dates (5/12/09) and any from 11-1-07 through 12-31-08.
• Snack Naturally Goji Snack Mix (12/14 oz UPC 9-99482-00060-1), Sell by dates (4/12/09, 4/5/09) and any from 1-1-07 through 12-31-08.
• Snack Naturally Politically Incorrect Mix (12.10 oz UPC 9-99482-00062-5), Sell by dates (5/12/09, 4/7/09) and any from 1-1-07 through 12-31-08.
• Snack Naturally Nutty Delight Mix (12/16 oz UPC 9-99482-00059-5), Sell by dates (3/14/09, 3/7/09) and any from 1-1-07 through 11-30-08.

The recalled items are distributed nationwide and sold to retail stores, some of them in bulk for sales of smaller quantities to their customers.
This precautionary action was taken because the products contain peanuts that were part of the Peanut Corporation of America's Peanut recall.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products are urged to return them to the store of purchase, or to destroy the product.
