Kings Super Markets Issues a Voluntary Recall of Kings Branded and Bulk Peanut Products

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 9, 2009 -- Kings Super Markets, Parsippany, NJ is recalling the following items because they contain peanuts that have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
This action was taken as a result of the recently expanded recall by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) to include all peanut ingredients produced in their Blakely, Georgia facility, in turn affecting Kings Super Markets’ suppliers for bulk peanut products.
None of the recalled Kings Super Markets products have been directly linked to the salmonella outbreak, and there have been no illnesses reported.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
