FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Beloit, WI -- February 8, 2009 --- Kerry Ingredients & Flavours of Beloit, WI is voluntarily recalling the Jana’s Peanut Butter Cookie product because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was manufactured using peanuts recalled by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
Kerry Ingredients & Flavours is recall the following items which were sold to distributors based in California and Wisconsin:

The clamshell packages have a black and white label stating Peanut Butter Cookie with Peanut, as well as a nutritional facts panel. At the bottom of this panel it states Made by: Kerry Inc. Tualatin OR. The first five digits of the code printed on the back or side of the clamshell match the first five digits of the above lot numbers. These products are further labeled by the stores in which they are sold; therefore labeling may contain the store name and/or brand name.
The company has not received any consumer illness complaints about these products; however we are taking this precautionary step to safeguard our customers and consumers. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanuts used to manufacture these products were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Kerry Ingredients & Flavours is working closely with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in the recall of these products.
Any customer in possession of this product should provide lot number and quantity information to Scott Langston, Director of Quality Assurance and Technical Services at (60 363-1357 between 8 am and 5 pm (CST) and then destroy the product.
