Hawk’s Lair Inc. Announces a Nationwide Recall of Tins Filled with Candies That Contain Peanuts Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 6, 2009 – Hawk’s Lair Inc. has voluntarily recalled certain tin products filled with candies that contain peanuts because of a possible health risk related to the recent peanut recall.
Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) has voluntarily expanded the recall of all peanuts and peanut products produced at their Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007. Hawk’s Lair Inc. is acting out of an abundance of caution to voluntarily recall certain products that they purchased from manufacturers that used peanut products from PCA since January 1, 2007, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and/or abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
This recall includes the following items:

Dark Chocolate Covered Peanuts in Decorative Tins
Milk Chocolate Covered Peanuts in Decorative Tins
Dark Chocolate Nut Clusters in Decorative Tins
Peanut Brittle in Decorative Tins
Chocolate Covered Peanut Brittle in Decorative Tins
Milk Chocolate Bridge Mix in Decorative Tins
Dark Chocolate Bridge Mix in Decorative Tins
Sugar Free and No Sugar Added Peanut Caramel Patties in Decorative Tins
Sugar Free and No Sugar Added Bridge Mix in Decorative Tins
This precautionary measure was taken as a result of the recently-expanded recall by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) to include all peanut ingredients produced in their Blakely, Georgia facility. None of the recalled products have been directly linked to the Salmonella outbreak, and there have been no illnesses reported.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy the product. Consumers with questions or concerns about their health should contact their doctor.
