A. L. Schutzman Announces Recall of Dry Roasted Peanut and Nut Topping Products due to Recall By Peanut Corporation of America

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Waukesha, WI (February 6, 2009) – A. L. Schutzman Company is voluntarily recalling several private label branded products of dry roasted peanut products and nut toppings. This recall was initiated because these products contain peanut products that are being recalled by Peanut Corporation of America because they are potentially contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the blood stream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis, for more information on Salmonella, please visit the centers for disease control and prevention's website at http://www.cdc.gov

There have been no reports of illnesses associated with the particular products being recalled.
