You're too funny ~ no ma'm not regularly (get the joke)? Anyway, as you know I work for a hospital. The medical director for long term care (geriatrics) started using this with the nursing home residents to keep them regular and off lexatives (considered another medication). It works beautifully and a real success so I'm told. He did bring some to a board meeting once and it really wasn't bad. Now, if I could get my folks to eat it, half their problems would be solved. But, if it's not covered in sauce and ends in a vowel, it's just not happening

okay, I've already fallen off the chair from laughing-how true it is about the old timers (Italians). My mother (91) has just the opposite problem-she's always going!! Which hospital do you work for?

Mary Beth, I work for Unity Health System. Started out at Park Ridge 25+ years ago but after the merger with St. Mary's, they moved administration to the Genesee Street location. So now I travel to the Bull's Head area every day. How excited am I ~ NOT. Luckily they're all a great bunch of folks making the transition tolerable but I keep praying they'll move us back to Greece. One of my bosses is the President of Continuing Care Services (geriatrics). She oversees the three nursing homes, HUD husing for the elderly, the assisted living apartments right on the Park Ridge campus, along with the medical & social day care centers. They have a really cool program to help the elderly remain in their own homes longer. It's called Club 24 and they provide all sorts of help ~ meals, housekeeping, home repairs, transportation, etc. I use them for my folks and they absolutely love it. Picture this ~ knowing the Italian mentality, can you imagine the struggle I faced when I suggested that someone handle the housework. Thankfully, they finally saw the light!

Oh, I could just imagine. You were lucky though, at least they came around. My father passed away 12 years ago so it was just my mother & my sister(never married) living in the house. Three years ago my sister passed away (battled cancer for 7 years) so now I'm faced with an old, very stubborn, very controlling Italian mother with dimentia. Did I mention that "no one was gonna tell her what to do or where to live"!! It was the year from hell. She now lives at Rochester Presbyterian Home & loves it. She's now gone from making cookies, pastries & pasta to doing arts & crafts!
