OT--Photos of Italy, Part 2

Here are some photos of Sorrento.

This is a shot of the Grand Excelsior Vittoria hotel taken from the marina below. This hotel is listed in Patricia Schultz's book, "1,000 Places to See Before You Die." The hotel is made up of the three buildings perched at the top of this cliff. To the right, just below the pink building, is the breakfast room (see photos below). This was our third stay at this hotel, and it remains one of our favorites. It is an incredible hotel with awesome views of the bay of Naples. I totally agree with Patricia; it is a must-see place.

Here's the view from the terrazza of the hotel, looking toward Capo di Sorrento (looking south).

This was the view from our balcony looking towards Naples (looking north). The Marina Piccola, below, is the major port for ferries, yachts, etc. in Sorrento. Beyond, the outline of Mt. Vesuvius is very visible (it was incredibly clear that morning; the night before there was a lightning storm, complete with choppy seas and high winds).

The next two pictures are of the breakfast room for the hotel. The rooom also doubles as one of their restaurants and they hold a lot of special events here. There are amazing views from the windows of this room.

This photo is actually from our last trip. It is of the Marina Grande on the island of Capri. The photo was taken from the Villa San Michele, which is located in the hill town of Anacapri. Great view, huh?

These photos were taken with an Olympus C-4000 digital camera, 4 megapixels. I switched over to a digital camera two years ago, and I love it. I've always used Nikons, but the Nikon digital cameras didn't have very good reviews at the time I was shopping for one (maybe they're better now). The technology is changing so fast (they have digital SLR cameras now for people who need to be able to change lenses), and they no longer make the model I have (or maybe they do, but I don't see it in the ads). I can't believe they have cameras with 8 megapixels; that's just way too much detail for me!

I'm happy with my camera (I love being able to look at the pictures right away); but I do get little distortion when I take really low angle shots of really tall things. I like that I can control my prints too. I print them out at the photo kiosks at one of the local drug stores, where I can adjust exposure, color, and zoom, plus I can order a CD of the entire memory card so I can erase old pictures. When the price of the digital SLR's come down, I might look into those too.
