Off Topic Saturday.....
I have gained the reputation of being the thread starter for what's cookin' so hell -- why not for this too?
Anyway my off topic -topic today is the fact that my kids are having March Break this coming week and I haven't got a clue how to keep them busy. I'm thinking of taking them to the cottage. We haven't been up since summer. There is a great place to go sking and snowboarding close to it so I think we'll go up for a few days.
Other then that I'll probably visit with friends and family and take them out to the movies and stuff like that.
How bout you guys? Is it March Break in the U.S too???

There is an easter break here for all the kids. I am not sure when it is. It may be different in different areas. Usually it is the week before easter. Does anyone know what day easter falls on this year? I think some of the college kids call it Spring Break a la 'where the boys are'. Love that movie. LOL Your plans sound great FG.
Everyone, please put all your all topic posts for the day under this thread. I am happy to wake up this morning and find that they got that creep in Atlanta that killed a judge and a cop and court reporter yesterday. Big manhunt all night.

Kathy, Easter is March 27th this year---quite early. I like it better when it's in mid April or so. The weather is warmer then and it feels more like spring-- and thus Easter. LOL

Tezzy what instrument do you play in your school band? I remember in grade 9 I had to take music class and I had to play the flute. I was horrible at it!!!

For Jazz band I play Tenor Sax, and for band, I play Bass Clarinet. Ohhh flute, I could never play that, for me, the bigger the instrument, the better.

Hey, FG, I know you come from a big family, so how about doing some real family stuff, like making a family tree with your kids. Or you could pull out old family albums and show your kids how you, your parents, or your grandparents looked when you were young (not to say you don't look young now!); tell them stories about your parents and grandparents, and what you and hubby used to do before you had kids. Luckily, my mom took home movies and took a lot of pictures when we were growing up and we still go through old pictures when we get together. I think that's where I get it from...I'm always the one with the camera.
Many, many years ago my parents took us on a family trip to the Phillippines and took us to where they grew up. While we were there, we did a family tree with our relatives abroad; it helped us know more about our relatives there and for them to know more about those of us in the US. It was awesome seeing the schoolhouse where my dad spent his early years (he was 75 when we took the trip; he's passed away since then) and hearing stories about him when he was a kid from his aunts, uncles and cousins. I only knew one of my grandparents, my mother's father, and my mom always tells me how she wished we, my sisters and I, could have met her.
One of my sisters and a cousin are planning a family reunion this summer (mom's side of the family); we're trying to find a central location and a place big enough for all of us. It's hard deciding how far down the cousin line to go, because we don't want to leave anyone out (heaven forbid!). It's going to be a huge gathering no matter what (my mom had 9 siblings and each of them had a bunch of kids... and I have 5 sisters!). One of my co-workers had a family reunion last year (she's Japanese). It wasn't just huge, it lasted all weekend, with a big anniversary party for her grandparents as the highlight of the weekend. One of the favors she helped make for the reunion was a compilation (I can't remember if it was a book or CD) of family recipes, you know, the recipes for dishes that a certain relative always brings to family gatherings, and that you always look for it if you know they're going to be there. I thought that was a very cool idea.
I think any time you spend with your kids will be great, even it's just watching a silly movie that makes everyone laugh!

Thanks for the suggestions Calrose, they sound great. I am a phto enthusiast! I swear my children were blind as babies from all the flash bulbs in their eyes.
They are always going through photo albums and I have framed photos all over the house of friends family etc.....
I am gald my aunts are coming from Germany for3 weeks to celebrate my mom's 60th Birthday this April so my kids can meet them too. That is the reason I can not attend the Tyler appearence in Toronto.
