I have to say, it really frustrates me when some primary GE ingredient is almost impossible for me buy where I live. I have exactly one medium grain and no short grain options and the medium grain isn't even arborio. Oh well, file the info away for someday.

is it not something you can order online at a reasonable price? i have to say that i usually can find stuff where i am with a minimum of hassle, so i'm not familiar with where you could go to find rice online.

I haven't done any serious checking because my experience in the past has been that by the time shipping cost is added onto something cheap, it isn't cheap anymore. I usually wait until I am on vacation somewhere else and check out all the stores in that area (which is how I got my small supply of arborio).

are there any resturants in your area that serve risotto? they might be able to tell you where they get theirs, if it's not a chain resturant. they might know of stores that carry it that you haven't thought of, too.

just a thought. i'd hate anyone to have to go without good eats!

Hmmm, good idea except I don't think there are any "Italian" restaurants around here that serve risotto. But now that I think of it, there is an old italian community 10 miles or so from here. I need to go see if they have any stores there that sell authentic italian goods. Thanks for getting me thinking in a different direction about it.
