Need good novice cookbook ideas

I really need some suggestions for the best basic cookbooks that I could buy. I don't even know most of the basic terminology, let alone anything else. I'm hoping to find one that explains the various procedures as well as teaching me basic recipes.

The Fanny Farmer Cookbook will provide you with processes and procedures, measurements, conversions, and substitutions, as well as recipes for just about any dish that's been popular over the last 100 years or so that you might want to prepare.
