My favorite cookbook
I have a cookbook called "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of American Cooking" which is my favorite cookbook. It is organized by main ingredient and there is a ton of extra information in it. This was sold door to door by a company about twenty years ago. I tried to find publishing info or dates in it but couldn't. Anyone else have one of these? If not and you come across one at a lawn sale or such, it is a very good cookbook.

I will have to check this out next time I am at a local bookstore otherwise hunt it down online. This might end up being a hunt but I am up for the challenge.

Wow, this is very interesting. It sure sounds like an idea book for the cook. Have you ever tried to google the name and see what comes up? I found a very old cookbook for sale that way.

Let me know...
I'd love to hear what you find by googling. I searched in the book and couldn't find a publisher or date to go by. I just remember that this young guy was going door to door when I was pregnant with my daughter (who turns 20 this week). I ordered one as I didn't have a good cookbook and really needed to learn to cook a bigger variety...lol.

OMG.......I have that cookbook and I love it. I purchased mine the same way that you did, from a door-to-door salesman.
My book comes from The Southwestern Co.,Nashville, TN. And if I'm up on my roman numerals......it was published in MCMLXXII (1972)
Gawd, I'm OLD!
I think you found the right book, Tex. The cover on mine is different, but, it's the same book.
Favorite Recipes Press (1972)
Library of Congress Catalog
Card Number 72-75179
The pictures are all B&W......hope yours are in color.

That sounds like a great cookbook. There are days that I can't thinl of what to do with whatever I have for supper. Something like that would help me decide. I wonder if they hav a Canadian version.
