Mmmmm Pot Luck

I love pot lucks. Nothing is more fun than heading out with a bowl of something good and sampling something new you'd never make. It takes a bit more planning to make sure everything gets brought, but its sooo worth it.

They dont call them taste testers for nothing right? I love the pot lucks we do every other weekend for our community get togethers. Its twice a week and a good chance to meet up with the local people in our area. Last weekend we had one and I did a new turkey roast I ended up testing out on everyone.

I've done potlucks in the office on occasion. Sometimes we do a breakfast potluck, and sometimes we do a lunch potluck. Both give everyone a chance to make something different or show off a specialty. One woman makes a 3-bean salad for everything, no matter what!! (It's really good though.)

At my last office job, we would do a huge potluck for Christmas. We had appetizers, entrees and desserts, and we'd set each course up in a different department so there was a lot of socializing going on too. One of my coworkers was Lebanese and she would make some really terrific dishes, including a homemade hummus. Another coworker was Brazilian and she brought these great "chicken balls" that I wish I had the recipe for. They were about the size of meatballs but had breading and were deep fried, and they were delicious.

Our mom's group has monthly potlucks, it's wonderful! I love trying all the weird (I mean healthy) foods everyone brings. It's hard, since several kids have food allergies, but it always works out.

Potlucks scare me half to death. I've been to too many that had virtually nothing edible than the salad, everything was just swimming in grease, or burned, or just generally yuck.
