Reden I'm going to Paula's!

My T-Bird club is planning a 4-day event in Savannah in July, and we have booked The Lady & Sons for dinner on 7/12! We'll be staying at a hotel in the historic district with trips to Tybee Island, Ft Jackson and lots of other things on the agenda (like the Ghost Tour). I can hardly wait! If any of you are from that area and you see a lot of retro-Birds driving around that weekend, that's us!

I am so jealous. I wish I could go with you. I love Paula Deen and if you meet her I will be so envious of you. Make sure to let us know how it goes.

Of course there's no guarantee that she or the 'boys' will be at the restaurant that night (due to their hectic schedule), but she has been made aware that the Thunderbird club members will be there. Regardless, it will be a great evening!

Oh, how exciting!!! You gotta love a woman whose recipes all begin with a stick of butter, LOL!! I just made her swiss steak last week and it was wonderful!

Only a few months to go, you are so lucky!

Congrats on your soon to be trip! You will have to keep us all updated. I always want to go visit places like this, but work you know drives you nutty when you cant get vacation time at certain points of the year.

Hey y'all! Well, it's over and done with; been there and done that. Our T-Bird club had dinner this evening, and much to my dismay, I have to report that on a scale of 1-10...the Lady & Sons is a 3.5. Very disappointing. Of course, being a large group, we had to do the buffet, so I sampled everything there was, just so I could give an accurate report. Let me just say that, while we all know Paula loves butter, she also seems to have a love affair with salt. Everything in the buffet was so overpoweringly salty, it was hard to eat it. The only things that were't over-salted were the fried chicken, the fried fish, the mac & cheese and the sweet potatoes. However, the fish was whole...and not deboned. I overheard many people complaining about all the bones. Black-eyed peas, brocolli, limas, collard greens, beef, & corn pudding were virtually inedible for the salt content.

Service...while the waiters were attentive and cleared plates quickly, we were treated rudely when being seated. They knew how many of us were coming, but they refused to seat the last two of our members in our designated area, saying that the last table wasn't assigned to our wait-staff. It resulted in those two members leaving without dinner. It was brought to the manager's attention, but I do not know the outcome of that yet.

Enough about that. I did get to see the stairway where the fire was a few weeks ago. Tried to take a pic, but they were chasing us out quickly so as to get the next group in. We were in the room on the third floor.

Well...here are some pics...sign outside, pics on her wall of Paula, etc., some of our group in the 3rd floor dining room.

Oh Elle, I am disappointed with your experience at Paula's. I was so looking forward to hearing glowing remarks. Are you going to write her and let her know what happened? Maybe, she has been so busy with her other lives doesn't realize how her restaurant is suffering without her overseering.

Well, I'm back home now. Update...manager refunded the money to the two who had to leave (our reservation was pre-paid months ago for 41 people). A formal written complaint was filed with the company which included a request for a written apology (from Paula) to our group for the rude treament. We'll see if we ever get it.
