I was 5, and I had asked my mother to teach me how to bake bread. I've been cooking/baking ever since, even to the extent of becoming a certified chef well over 30 years ago. I had 2 previous college degrees, which I totally ignored in my "career years".

I've not really been interested in cooking until about 2-3 years ago.

I was very little probably the age of Elle. I can remember my grandfather even let me cook. I can remember standing on a kitchen chair - while my grandfather was teaching me how to fix a mincemeat pie. I really had good family teachers and still love everything with food. That includes learning, experimenting and preparing food.

I am the eldest child in our family and I have no sisters. What does that mean, I was the one to have the responsibility to cook for it is customary in the Philippines that the eldest child will do most of the chores. So from what I could remember, I was about 8 years when I started cooking and that was just steamed rice. After 2 years I think, my mother taught me how to fry and boil food. Then another 1 year for her to teach me how to cooked real recipes.

I was about 10. My mother got me a junior cook book. All the recipes in it were designed to be prepared by children. I remember there was a recipe for a drink my sister and I just knew we would like. It took us awhile to convince our mother to buy the stuff it called for. She didn't really think we would like it. We made it, all excited about this new drink that was about to become our favorite beverage. One sip and we were certain. Mom was right. It was awful. I don't even remember what all it had it in. I still have that book somewhere, maybe I should go look it up.

I am the youngest of a 6 blended family. My father could not cook, and I used to babysit my older sisters children, so I had to learn early.

I just recently started cooking. I've always been interested, but have been too lazy to actually try something complex. I would say that I "seriously" got into cooking about 2 months ago.

I've been cooking since I was 12, baking a little longer than that. I really got a renewed interest in cooking when I started watching HGTV. I was recuperating from the flu or some such thing and happened to catch a couple cooking shows~~or part of a program. The one I remembered was RR. After I recuperated, I thought I'd try one of her recipes and BINGO I was back to cooking and with NEW recipes and new confidence.

Because my family has history of cooks, I was taught to cook to a very early age, at 6 (if this is still early). At first, it was exciting to cook especially when you were young when your curiosity is still at the very peek. Then when it became a regular duty for me to do cooking the rice then I began hating cooking. But gradually I came back to my liking of cooking when I was around 16 when I could cook for visitors. I like it very much when they me that my recipe is really and asks me how do I it.
