FME makes mark in Asia

ASIA TV FORUM: FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) will arrive at this week's ATF having already secured 1,200 hours worth of sales in Asian territories.

Four recent FME acquisitions have begun to sell in Asia following their launch at Mipcom in October: The Food Network's Essence of Emeril, with celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse; event programme The Brit Awards; Scout Productions' Big Ideas for a Small Planet; and reality series Murder, from Bunim Murray Productions and Spike TV.

Philippines network ABS CBN has picked up 446 of the total hours, including Murder; The Brit Awards; Emeril; a second cooking show, Kylie Kwong: My China (Sitting in Pictures); two series of Radical Media's Iconoclasts; series six of Mark Burnett Productions' The Apprentice (US version); and parenting experiment show Bringing Up Baby (Silver River).

In Thailand, UBC Cineplex bought The Brit Awards, Murder and Big Ideas, along with Radical Media's comedy Gamekillers and Silver River's Fat Man's Warning.

ATV Hong Kong added a suite of Atlantic Productions' factual shows – among them Tutankhamen: Secrets of a Boy King, Cleopatra and The Sphinx Unmasked – to its Big Ideas purchase.

Elsewhere in Hong Kong, TVB acquired Image Impact's Nigel Marven-hosted natural history programmes Penguin Safari, Killer Whale Island, and Arctic Adventure.

Finally, Malaysia's Media Prima signed for the fourth season of Weinstein/Miramax series Project Runway, series three of The Janice Dickinson Modelling Agency (Little Pond Productions/FremantleMedia North America) and Jamie's Kitchen Australia (Fresh One).

Ganesh Ranjaram, FME's VP Asia, called the raft of sales "a great testament to the quality and international appeal of FME's portfolio."
