Description: Great cordial to make and give in a Christmas gift basket!
|
| Ingredients: |
- 2 cups fresh cherries, washed and dried
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- Peel of 1 lemon
- 3 cups bourbon, or enough to cover
|
| Instructions: |
- Place cherries in a 1-quart glass container, being careful not to crush the fruit.
- Add sugar and lemon peel.
- Fill container with bourbon. Seal the lid, then gently shake the jar or move it around on the counter to distribute the alcohol and sugar evenly. The sugar will continue to dissolve over time.
- Label the jar and place in a cool, dark place for 2 months or longer to allow the liquor to be infused with the fruit flavor.

That sounds very nice for a gift or not. Is there any particular bourbon you would suggest using for this or does this matter at all?

The recipe doesn't specify any particular brand, but my suggestion would be to use a high-quality bourbon. Not the most expensive one, but a good quality one, especially if you're making this to give as a gift. And right now is the best time to make this and the others I've posted, because the fresh fruit is in season and you can store these drinks for a long period of time - the longer they sit, the more fruit flavor will leach into the liquor.
