TV chefs 'encourage boys to cook'

Celebrity chefs such as Gordon Ramsay may be responsible for a big rise in the number of boys who took a home economics GCSE this summer.
Students taking the course dropped four per cent overall but the number of boys rose by a fifth.
This year 3,967 boys sat the exam, a rise of 19 per cent on last year's 3,333.
"It may be due to the male role models that they see cooking on TV," said John Dunford, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders.
"This is a very small start in redressing the balance in the numbers of boys taking home economics."
Michelin starred chef Sat Bains, who appeared on Great British Menu, said: "I think it's fair to say that the surge in the number of male students into home economics at school has a direct correlation to the exposure of the top UK chefs on national television.
"When I was starting out, there was no-one from Britain who was an inspiration. All the big names came from France. Then of course came Marco Pierre White and his book White Heat."
