Article: Top 10 favorite cookbooks that are nutritious and delicious
Top 10 favorite cookbooks that are nutritious and delicious
Source: Examiner Seattle
My top 10 favorite cookbooks that are nutritious and/or delicous in no particular order are: - Nourishing Traditionsby Sally Fallon with Mary G. Enig PhD. I adore this book for the great recipes but even more so because of the outstanding information on the benefits of traditional diets.
- Feeding the Whole Family: Recipes for Babies, Young Children and Their Parents by Cynthia Lair. You do not need children to need this amazing whole foods cookbook!
- The Art of Simple Food by Alice Waters. This sustainable food activist has also been listed by the James Beard Foundation as Best Chef in America in 1992.
- All the Moosewood Restaurant Cookbooks by the Moosewood Collective. This collectively owned vegetarian restaurant has been around since 1973 and they are still as fresh as ever!
- Raw: The UNcookbook by Juliano with Erika Lenkert. You won’t believe the raw dishes that come out of this book. For a raw gourmand this is tops!
- The New Making of a Cook: The Art, Techniques, and Science of Good Cooking by Madeleine Kamman. If you want to learn how to cook then this tome, from the founder and director of The School for American Chefs, is your unbeatable reference guide with delicious recipes as well.
- Wild Fermentation: The Flavor, Nutrition and Craft of Live-Culture Foods by Sandor Ellix Katz. Cultured foods are sadly few and far between in America. Wild Fermentation is going to change that, one recipe at a time!
- All the Junior League of New Orleans Cookbooks The New Orleans Junior League published their first cookbook in 1972 and I have been thankful ever since. I’m from New Orleans and if you want true Louisiana cooking these can’t be beat!
- Stocking Up: the Third Edition of the Classic Preserving Guide by Carol Hupping and the Staff of the Rodale Food Center. This is the most comprehensive guide for anyone wanting to preserve any kind of food! This book has it all: harvesting, canning, freezing, drying, butters, cheeses, breads, sprouts and even meats.
- Home Cheese Making by Ricki Carroll. I love cheese and this book by the owner of the New England Cheesemaking Supply Company.
