Chef Gordon Ramsey: Outlaw out-of-season veggies

Chef wants to outlaw out-of-season vegetables
by Paul Majendie REUTERS
--- "Celebrity British chef Gordon Ramsay said restaurants should be fined if they serve out-of-season fruit and vegetables.
"I don't want to see asparagus in the middle of December. I don't want to see strawberries from Kenya in the middle of March. I want to see it home-grown," he said after raising his concerns with Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
"Fruit and veg should be seasonal. Chefs should be fined if they don't have ingredients in season on their menu," he told the BBC on Friday.
Ramsay, whose London restaurants include Petrus and The Savoy Grill, said Britain had become a nation of lazy eaters who followed trends and fads rather than substance.
"There should be stringent laws, licensing laws, to make sure produce is only used in season and season only," he added."

As nice an idea as I find this, it is idealised to say the least. I cannot see any government enforcing this kind of thing when they cannot even encourage their people to eat healthy. One thing at a time, please, and focus on the important things first.

...and I want to wash Gordon Ramsey's mouth out with soap. We can't always get what we want now, can we?

Gordon Ramsay is being as confrontational and controversial as usual, and this is the kind of stuff that we have come to love him for!!!

Gordon is a loud mouthed guy, but you have to admit that it does sound like a pretty good idea...in theory at least.

Too bad I doubt it will never fly, and it's not as great as it may sound anyway.

I duno, with gas prices rising it could be closer than you think, but not because the government passed laws. I do think he's probably just stirring the pot, but maybe it will get people thinking.

That is exactly what Gordon Ramsay does best...stir the pot! Both meanings of that saying of course!

Getting people talking is still something, and may at least make some restaurants re-evaluate the way that they prepare their meals.

The cost factor is definitely going to be one of the main deciding points.
