Am I the only one...

Am I the only one who gets annoyed with Alton Brown? I find him irritating in his food banter. He just seems to itch a nerve. Sure I learn lots of quirky things from him but my annoyance level is so high by the time the show is over I have just stopped watching. I feel bad he gives good comments and facts, but he drives me nuts.

AB is an acquired taste. My first experience with Good Eats wasn't very positive. I thought the show was totally stupid. Who is this idiot, and what does Count Dracula have to do with garlic? And, what's up with using a power drill to grind pepper? I thought the show was a combination Pee Wee's Playhouse meets Tim (the tool man) Taylor in Home Improvement......

And then, it dawned on me.....this wasn't your ordinary run of the mill cooking show. This is a food science class. Alton's tongue-in-cheek teaching methods (cast of characters-props-show titles) caught my attention--and kept me glued to the tube. And guess what? I learned a thing or two about food. Not how to cook, but, the history of food, how it's used in certain culinary configurations, and the chemistry that is involved in baking.

Alton is not everybody's cup of tea, but, I think he's a culinary genius. Just watch him do his thing on ICA. The man knows his food, and shares his vast knowledge in an entertaining, easy to understand manner. He's not into "dumbing down" cooking, like so many other so called chefs on FTV.

Hi, Mshissy, How are you doing?

I agree with Mshissy about Alton. I didn't like Good Eats at first, either. I realized Alton's shows are not one to watch in passing. He does have hidden messages all through the show. Alton is a genius and does make his shows interesting and educational. I am so impressed with his vast encyclopedia
food knowledge. Do give Alton's show another try. He really does have a great sense of humor, too!

He is a genius, that's for sure. Unfortunately, most geniuses area tad eccentric. I used to hate the show, then he sort of grew on me. Now whenever his show is on, if I'm not working, I watch Alton. I really like the facts and stories. It's more than a cooking show.

No, I undertand he can really get under his wife's skin from time to time, and his sister is almost always pissed off at him for some reason or another.

When Alton is on, I change the channel. I don't have that many favorites now, since the chefs moved over to the FLN. I watched that channel more often.

Maybe they are all shooting for a drama show instead? I dont watch too many, and I am not keen to sticking with just one, I like to spice things up, but I think with all I have read here, this is the last one I would watch. I dont think I could handle all that!!

Now I feel a little bad for bashing him. Maybe I will give him a second chance. I do like all of the trivia that comes from the show. I learn weird food facts.
