The recipe doesn't specify any particular brand, but my suggestion would be to use a high-quality bourbon. Not the most expensive one, but a good quality one, especially if you're making this to give as a gift. And right now is the best time to make this and the others I've posted, because the fresh fruit is in season and you can store these drinks for a long period of time - the longer they sit, the more fruit flavor will leach into the liquor.
